Lions Bus Chili
Winner of the Fifth Annual Detroit Tailgate Chili Cook-Off
The newest inductees into the Detroit Tailgate Hall of Flame are Gary & Co. for their excellent meat and bean chili. Congrats to Matt, Gary, John and the entire Lions Bus crew for taking home the chili champ title and grand prize Keg Roaster by Camp Chef.
This is the first time a "traditional" chili has won the competition. Go browse the Hall of Flame to see past winners.

The Best Time of Year
Thanksgiving is a very special time for Detroit Lions tailgaters. We look forward to the comraderie in the lot, the sharing of food and beers, and catching up with our Packer friends. If you haven't experienced Turkey Day in Detroit, you owe it to yourself to try it once, and if you're a grizzled veteran of the asphalt, you need to send us photos of your tailgate.
It's time to boast
Detroit has a long and storied history of tailgating that puts most cities to shame, yet the entire nation believes a tailgate scene doesn't even exist here. We need to change that perception right now. Send us your photos, locations, and stories, and help us shine a light on the greatest football fans who work hard and play harder in this diehard football town.

Congratulations to all Detroit tailgaters for one of the best football Sundays we've seen in a long time around here. We know the tailgates in Lot 1 of the Eastern Market are world class and they need to be applauded. Special kudos to Ben Stoffer, a top-notch Motor City ambassador, for bringing two bus loads of fans from Ohio and showing them a great time in Detroit (even though their team LOST!).

The Fifth Annual Detroit Tailgate Chili Cook-Off was a resounding success. Thanks to everyone who participated and made the event so much fun. We'll announce the newest inductees into the Detroit Tailgate Chili Cook-Off Hall of Flame as soon as we get the pictures developed.

The Lions Den Lives!
Our sincere apologies to Jim, Matt, and the Lions Den crew for falsely reporting that their tailgate headquarters burned on the side of I-94. We apparently got some bad information. A tailgate RV did burn on October 11, 2009 and multiple sources believed it was the Lions Den.
We now have a tailgate mystery to solve. Contact us if you have any information as to the true identity of the unlucky tailgate rig.

Fifth Annual Detroit Tailgate Chili Cook-Off

Detroit tailgaters know their chili, and the Detroit Tailgate Chili Cook-Off brings out the best around. If you think you have what it takes to win, bring your bowl of chili to the center of Tailgate Lot 1 in the Eastern Market, and let the judges decide.

This also marks the third year in a row that THE TUBGATERS will be tailgating with us during the chili cook-off. Something about a steaming bowl of chili and a bubbling hot tub that just go hand-in-hand! Bring your appetite and bring your suit (that is, if you need one).

There is none! All chilis are welcome. Beans or no beans. Steak or venison. It's all good to us. Stop by and drop off a sample for the judges, or bring a crock pot and hang out for the day. We have plenty of electricity to keep everything hot.
No entry fee. Just fill out your name and email address and get a judging number.
Judging will begin at 10:30 am, and a winner will be announced at 11:30 am.
Champion will be determined by three judges with no strict criteria. Simply the best chili wins.
Grand prize is a Camp Chef Keg Roaster.
We will also have an open vote to determine the most popular chili to receive a trophy and special recognition.

In Memory of The Lions Den
One of the baddest machines to ever grace the lot
The crew of The Lions Den have suffered a tailgater's worst nightmare. Their beloved bus caught fire on I-94 on the way home after the Steeler game. No injuries, except the complete loss of one of the most unique tailgate rigs we've ever seen. We can't imagine such a loss, and if Jim and the Lions Den crew are reading this, you're always welcome to party with Detroit Tailgate and The Tailgaters.
